Healthier Environment: Health is one of the most, if not the most, important aspect of life. One could argue that the car can pretty much be your second home. A well maintain car interior eliminates growing bacteria, allergen and prevent molds, which can negatively affect your health, from building up.

However, if you are keen on doing this yourself, you also can and here is how to do it properly. let’s get started on getting your buddy a well inside clean up he/she deserves.
1. Tools and Equipment: We need to obtain some of the essential tools needed to make our job easier. These tools can significantly assist us in performance while saving much needed time and energy for other taskings we may have:
A good dry vacuum cleaner This is a must must have item to start on any basic interior detailing at all.
Good car detailing brush set for crevices and hard to clean area. Good big brushes for carpets and fabric car seat.
Your favorite All Purpose Cleaner (APC) dilute 1:12 (1 part cleaner, 12 parts water). The dilution may varies depend on the pH of the cleaner but this is a good general estimate for generic All Purpose Cleaners out there.
Microfiber towels with good lint content to ensure no scratch on plastic, leather, etc….surfaces of the car.
Glass cleaner solution and waffle towel: a good glass cleaner would leave no streak but you can also use the APC solution as alternative. Waffle microfiber towel has no lint which is opposite of general microfiber towel to ensure no streaking and no lint left on glass after cleaning.
Steam Cleaner machine (optional) It is not a requirement but is a good investment to get for medium end detailing as it gets rid of many bacteria and can lift up hard to clean gunk.
Water Extractor machine (optional) is used on a deep clean level as it can suck out the dirty trapped moistures inside the seats and carpets after an intense cleaning of the car. If you use lots of water, steams and APC solution for a deep clean, this is a must have. You can either make a DIY machine or can buy one of the cheaper one to get started as this is one of the pricey items
Drill brush (optional) can be versatile but is a great great help in cleaning fabrics and carpets as its the best agitator once we apply those chemicals/soap.
Air blow gun with air compressor (optional). This guy is a must have if you are doing the cleaning on a frequent basis. This dude is a cheat code, literally will save so much of your time and energy when it comes to hard to reach spots and pet hair or other hair.
Air Freshener (optional) I personally like the car to smell fresh after each clean. It gives the best value for money as fresh nice car smell would totally improve your driving experience.

2. Steps recommendation for proper interior detailing:
Remove all items: Yes…It seems obvious but many people would skip this step and go straight into cleaning. Taking out trash, personal items and any easy to remove accessories should be the first ever task to ensure a smooth cleaning process going forward.
Remove & Clean Carpets: After remove from car, we can clean the carpets anytime to be honest. But here are some tips to do so. Follow these 3 simple steps. Solution, Agitate, Wipe Off. We spray some APC, use the big brushes (or the drill brush !!! ) and go to town with the carpet, lastly rinse off (optional) or simply wipe off the solution. If rinse off, let dry or use water extractor for extraction, do not leave carpet wet as bacteria can grow, causing weird musty smell.
Vacuuming: Straight up. Very time consuming task. This is where air blow gun would do its magic in assisting one of the biggest tasks in interior detailing.
Cleaning & Wiping Surfaces and Upholstery: Spray some of out APC solution on dirty surfaces. I personally would let it dwell a bit for very dirty spot. Follow by a clean microfiber towel and wipe off all the dirt and grime.
Cleaning Crevice, Air Vents, Door Jams, hard to reach spots: Yes, these are the spots most people would skip but interior detailing, we can’t miss these important spots and its the most overlook and some of the dirtiest spots in one’s vehicle. Simple APC, detailing brush and wipe off with microfiber towels.
Clean Windows and Mirrors: The inside of the windows can get dirty and we need to clean them. Use a good glass cleaner and the waffle towels for this task. Be patient with the front and back windshield as they are the harder ones to clean.
Steam cleaning, deep clean with water extractor (optional). You can add this to your carpet cleaning and car seat cleaning process. It can be time consuming for first timer but as you learn. Do be very very careful when deal with leather materials. Depend on the leathers and its sensitiveness, it may be best not to use machines as it can be rough on the materials. Instead use microfiber towel and hand clean the dirty spots, repeat this step as much as needed to get rid of hard stuck grime/dirt. Then let it dry, use a fan to speed up drying process if needed.
Remember to reinstall your carpets and accessories after finishing up with the cleaning.
3. Lastly, apply protection to your interior (optional)
Applying protection would greatly improve future cleaning experience and it also preserve the condition of the materials of the interior. You don’t really need to do this every single clean but often enough to keep everything new and fresh. Leather conditioning is great way to add protection. On the other hand, ceramic coating your interior could be one of the best form of protections.
